60 YEARS’ EXPERIENCE
IN THE ENHANCEMENT OF FISHERY COPRODUCTS

ABOUT SCOGAL

The Scogal Group is the city of Boulogne-sur-Mer’s maritime cooperative.
Although not a household name, Scogal is the world leader in the market for protein hydrolysates, and the parent company of Copalis Industrie and Valofish,
both market leaders in the enhancement fishery coproducts.

Copalis Industrie and Valofish.

In the 60 years since Scogal was founded, we have developed a forward-looking economic model based on the principles of the circular economy and constant innovation.

And it is based on this same economic model that our subsidiaries are able to maximize the value they add through their processing operations.

As a cooperative, our values are meaningful to us, and are shared by all of our employees.

INNOVATE

Constantly innovate to stimulate the local economy.

KEY DATES

1960

Creation of the Scogal Group, registered under the name, Coopérative de Traitement des Produits de la Pêche (CTPP). At the time, waste from fish processors in the Port of Boulogne-sur-Mer was considered worthless. The CTPP was created around the then-novel idea of adding value to fishery coproducts for the benefit of all stakeholders in Boulogne-sur-Mer.

1970

Scogal develops enzymatic hydrolysis of fish protein through its subsidiary, Copalis Industrie. Initially processed as fishmeal for animal feed, fishery coproducts can now be transformed into peptide-rich fish-protein hydrolysates using this process. With this technology, our cooperative is able to differentiate itself from its competitors and carve out a place for itself in the global pet food and aquaculture feed markets.

2000

Through Copalis Industrie, the Scogal Group develops its expertise even further with the opening of a marine-ingredients workshop dedicated to the production of dietary supplements and nutraceuticals. As a result of more selective sorting by cooperative members and suppliers, we can now extract specific high value-added molecules, such as fish skin-derived collagen.

2016

The Scogal Group diversifies further through its subsidiary, Copalis Industrie, and breaks into the new high value-added deep-freezing market.

2020

With the 2020 acquisition of Valofish, the Scogal Group confirms its position in the deep-frozen food market, and gains expertise in a new business line: the production of surimi base.
